FAQ

Becoming a Seller on TTW

How do I get started teaching on TTW?

Simply sign in and create a profile. Like any business the more information you put in there the more likely people are going to be interested. Once you have signed up make yourself available and pending interest you should be teaching in no time.

What Software do I need – anything special?

No – just make sure that internet connection is good and you have a web browser.

Do I need a webcam and what if my computer does not have one?

It is not essential but we would certainly encourage it as part of TTW’s aim is to give a more real experience and being able to see your students and vice versa makes the experience a better one.

What tools are available to me on TTW?

We have Whiteboard installed as part of the service, live chat, powerpoint presentation slides, screen sharing, audio and videocam. You also have the ability to teach one to one 1:1 or one to many 1:M.

How does a Buyer book a lesson with me?

You have a calendar as part of your profile, just register the times that you are available and the student will book a lesson and in turn you will receive a message to your email account letting you know the name of the student and the time requested.

How much should I charge – can I make the lessons free?

This really does depend on you, and your abilities. What is an hour of your time worth. What is it your offering? If for example you are a head chef at renowned Michelin starred restaurant and are offering a one hour lesson on cooking then of course you should be charging a fee that reflects your status in comparison to say Sarah who is giving a similar lesson but has never trained as a chef. Of course Sarah may be the better teacher but this will be reflected in your rating. The simple question is if you think you would pay such an amount for your time then doubtless those interested in what you offering will agree. The higher your rating and the more qualified you are the more you can charge. BUT you can of course if you are just passionate about your chose subject offer your lessons for free because you simply want others to learn what you know and share your knowledge with those who too are interested.

How much does it cost me to teach on TTW?

There is no direct cost to you but TTW does charge a 10% commission on any lesson for you to use our marketplace and facilities.

How do I get paid?

You get half before the lesson and the rest on completion. It’s like a builder coming to do work on your home, you pay an amount upfront and an amount on completion. If you fail to show for the lesson then the funds are returned to Buyer, which seems only fair!

Do I need qualifications to teach on TTW?

Nope, that’s why we love this marketplace. If you have a skill and you think others want to learn it then build a profile. Obviously the more qualified you are the more secure the Buyer will be about using you but at the end of the day if you give just one good lesson and get a good rating then you can, after time, rely solely on your rating, because that is what others will use to primarily judge you on.

What is the rating and how is it calculated?

Your rating is what sets you apart (well that and your qualifications), it allows those who have used you to give feedback and those who may want to use you to see if they are getting a good and valued teacher. Each time a student finishes a lesson with you they are asked to give their rating, the higher your rating the more value you have and like in any job if your rating is high your price can reflect this. It’s calculated each and every time someone’s appraises your lesson, so if after week 1 you have taught ten students and you have a score of 8 and you teach a further ten students who all give you a ten then your rating will change to 9.

Can I teach multiple students?

You can teach as many students as you want at any time. A lot of course will depend on what you are teaching, it may be that the lesson is personal to the buyer on the other hand you may be giving a lecture on “advances in technology what to expect over the next 12 months”, here of course you may teach a class of 50 or even more, it depends on the popularity of the subject matter and the subject matter itself and of course you!

Becoming a Buyer on TTW?

How do I sign up?

Simply browse through your interested area, find a tutor or course you like and book a lesson by going onto the Sellers profile page. Once you have booked a lesson you will receive a confirmation email and then all you have to do is make sure you are online at the time of the lessons. All lessons are given in GMT.

How do I know if the Seller is good?

There are a number of ways to be secure that the teacher you select is of the required quality. The first stop is always the rating, the higher the rating (note it’s important to look at the number of ratings) the better quality the seller. However you may be on a budget and therefore choosing your teacher becomes more difficult. Always look at the number of ratings, the rating itself, any qualifications they have and testimonials. Then it’s up to you.

How much does it cost?

That is the choice of the Seller and will depend on the lesson offered, the subject matter, their experience and of course how many students are on a particular lesson. The price of the lesson is displayed by the booking button and on the seller’s profile page. Note prices may be varied by the seller but not once the lesson has been booked.

How do I book a lesson with a teacher?

Hit the “Book a Lesson” button which is on the Seller’s profile. Once this is done the Seller will be sent an email confirming your request, once the time has been agreed additional information regarding the lesson will be posted.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

You can cancel a lesson up to 24 hours before the lesson is scheduled.

What payment methods are accepted?

After completion of a session, there will be a link to pay for your session with Paypal. You can use a major credit card, bank transfer, or use existing Paypal funds.
